There is no question that President Donald Trump’s administration is moving at breakneck speed, making sweeping changes across multiple sectors. Key areas where Trump is exerting major influence include artificial intelligence, immigration and taxes.
President Trump has focused on boosting the United States’ role in artificial intelligence. Previous executive orders, including former President Biden’s Executive Order 14110, had required government approval for artificial intelligence (AI) companies before they could continue certain projects. President Trump, meanwhile, has issued orders that remove extra regulatory steps, allowing companies to innovate faster and helping the U.S. compete globally in AI.
In early September, President Trump hosted a dinner with leaders of major tech companies, including Sam Altman (CEO, OpenAI), Shyam Sankar (CTO, Palantir) and Sundar Pichai (CEO, Google). The goal was to discuss AI development and to ensure companies and the Trump administration were aligned on innovation priorities. Following the meeting, tech leaders pledged more than $1 trillion for AI infrastructure in the U.S., with Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Apple’s Tim Cook each committing at least $600 billion toward data centers and supporting AI development.
Supporters say that by reducing regulations and encouraging investment, the administration is reigniting competition, a core driver of innovation and opening opportunities for faster technological advancement in the U.S. Although cutting back on regulation can boost business, there are some risks in privacy and safety. If companies no longer have to report regularly to an overseeing body they could cut corners in order to either speed up innovation or make a better profit at the consumers expense. There are definitely major ethical tradeoffs in this move by the Trump Administration.
Alongside AI, the Trump administration has taken a more aggressive approach to immigration and border enforcement compared to the previous administration. One of President Trump’s campaign promises was to carry out the largest deportation program in U.S. history. “The day I take the oath of office, the migrant invasion ends and the restoration of our country begins,” he said before the election at a rally in Kinston, North Carolina on November 3rd of 2024.
To achieve this, the administration has focused on reducing illegal border crossings and deporting non-citizens with criminal records. In July 2025, U.S. authorities recorded 4,598 illegal border crossings, a 97% drop from 181,384 crossings in July 2022. This monthlong total is even slightly below the daily average under the Biden administration, which was 5,110 crossings per day.
In just the first 100 days of President Trumps second term, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 66,463 non-citizens with criminal charges or convictions. By comparison, during the entire fiscal year 2024, ICE and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested 149,764 non-citizens with criminal records, and in FY 2021, 65,940. This indicates a sharp increase in enforcement under the current administration.
Another key area of focus for the President Trump administration is tax policy. In November 2017, President Trump introduced the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which lowered taxes for both corporations and individuals. The goal was to boost the economy by increasing consumer spending and encouraging companies to reinvest in their businesses.
In his second term, President Trump made the TCJA tax cuts permanent, extending the benefits for both individuals and corporations. The goal was to maintain strong economic growth by keeping taxes low, encouraging investment and supporting consumer spending.
The TCJA included a 15% tax cut for individuals earning $30,000-$80,000 and doubled the Child Tax Credit from $1,000 to $2,000, measures intended to benefit the middle class. Supporters say these changes have helped working families while promoting economic growth.
Overall, whether one supports or opposes his policies, the Trump administration has undeniably moved quickly, implementing major changes in AI, immigration and tax policy that are reshaping America’s economic and political landscape.
