On Tuesday night, March 28th, the YU Engineering Club hosted the second annual STEM Expo, a science event geared towards growing the STEM community on campus. The event took place at the Wilf Campus from 7:00-9:00 PM and featured many different exciting activities and giveaways.

From 7:00-8:00, various YU students presented their science research, or various passion projects in STEM. Faculty, alumni, as well as current and prospective students all had the opportunity to enjoy a sushi dinner as they walked around and heard from all the student presenters. Presenters had previously had the opportunity to hone their presentation skills through a workshop with Professor Marian Gidea. Both presenters and observers gained a lot from this experience. Nathan Stern (YC ‘24), a STEM Expo presenter stated, “Being able to present 3D printing and how I use it was extremely fun. Seeing how other people are interested in it encourages me to pursue the field further.” Presentation topics ranged from ChatGPT, to Snow Cones, to Civil Engineering. Start Science, the Environmental Club, and the Engineering Club also presented about their passions for science at the event.

From 8:00-8:45, attendees were able to enjoy dessert and an alumni panel. The alumni panel featured alumni from each of the classic STEM majors at YU–Biology, chemistry, computer science, math, and physics were all represented. The alumni had all taken various career paths after graduating and were able to offer guidance and answer questions about their journeys.

From 8:45-9:00, attendees competed for first place in a STEM trivia game. Questions spanned all areas of science and math so it was anyone’s game. Congratulations to Ben Bruder (YC ‘24) on his first-place win and to Jonathan Zirman (YC) ‘25 on winning second place.

At the end of the evening, all attendees walked away with swag keychains and a newfound appreciation for the science and math activities around campus. Thank you to all sponsors, participants, and attendees for a meaningful, educational, and fun evening.
