A Bittersweet Farewell to the Campus Couple and Shana Glasser

Yeshiva University, much like any other college, experiences changes in its staff and faculty year to year.  Although change can be exciting and new, there is always the downside of having to say goodbye to familiar faces, especially to people that are part of our weekly routine.  In the past semester, YU lost both Shana Glasser Beigelman from University and Housing Life, and the campus couple, Tuvia and Rahel Lwowski.

Shana served as the associate director of University and Housing Life (UHRL) and has been with Stern for the last ten years.  She worked with Rachel Kraut on every aspect of housing from RA programming to registration.  “She was an essential part to the efficiency and productivity of the UHRL team,” said RA Channah Esan, SCW ’13.  Shana left her job in November, recently got married, and is starting a new chapter of her life in Ithaca, NY.

The Lwowski’s have been enhancing Stern Shabbatons for the last three years.  They announced their December departure in October when Tuvia was offered a job transfer in Seattle.  “Things have definitely not been the same without them. My first Shabbos in since the campus couple left seemed a lot quieter without Maayan and Noa running around.  It was also very strange not to have a baal habayit say Kiddush and hamotzi,” said Elana Betaharon, SCW ’14.

Both Shana and the Lwowski’s encourage students to follow their dreams, not be afraid to be themselves, and to harness their strengths and actively chart the course of their lives.” The Observer is not alone in saying that while we are excited for both Shana and the Lwowski’s to have new opportunities, they will be missed greatly by the Stern community.
