While the drama surrounding last years budget- cuts left Stern students nervous about which faculty members would return in the Fall 2015 semester, there are actually a number of new faces that can be spotted on campus.
The Observer plans to get more time to feature some of these new members- and some long- standing professors at SCW and SYMS. However, this issue, we are here to make a brief introduction. Students, meet some of your new faculty:
Selective Stern College for Women Faculty Additions
Yitzhak Lewis is completing his PhD in Hebrew and Comparative Literature at Columbia and will be teaching in the Hebrew Department
Joanna Phua will be teaching Asian Politics and Globalization in the Political Science Department.
Michele Wijegoonaratna, who works at the Metropolitan Museum, will be teaching art.
Selective Sy Syms School of Business Faculty Additions
David Straite will be teaching the Business Law course this semester to our second-year students in the Sy Syms’ Executive MBA program. He is of counsel at Kaplan Fox, where he focuses on securities, corporate governance, hedge fund, antitrust and digital privacy litigation. He is a frequent speaker, including in continued education programs. Professor Straite’s practical experience and his enthusiasm to teach the law to our EMBA students make him an excellent addition to the SySyms Faculty.
Nurit Shaul will be teaching the Digital Media course to our undergraduate women on the Beren Campus. She is an Adjunct Faculty for Sy Syms Department of Marketing and has taught courses such as SEM, SEO, Display Marketing, Email Marketing, Social Media, Analytics, Landing Page Optimization, Online PR and Reputation Management, Mobile Marketing.
Jason D. Greenblatt is teaching a Business Management course for Sy Syms. He currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer to Donald J. Trump and TheTrump Organization.
Laizer Kornwasser just retired as Group Chairman/Exec VP,Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. He was formerly a very accomplished Senior Executive of a private andpublic company. He is a former Sy Syms graduate who will be teaching Managing a Growing Business this fall. He is a member of the Board of Trustees.
Athletics Department Faculty Additions
Shelley Whitaker has just been hired as the Associate Director of Athletics for both campuses. She has over ten years of experience as a co, assistant, or full-fledged Athletic Director for several other academic institutions; in addition, she has coached several teams, including women’s softball, volleyball and golf.
Michael Alon has just been hired as the women’s basketball coach. He is joining the Maccabees with over 8 years of basketball coaching experience, as well as a successful entrepreneurial career.
