On Thursday, November 6th, Yeshiva University’s pro-Israel activist group, YUPAC, joined forces with Columbia University’s LIONPAC and NYU’s TORCHPAC in a meeting of solidarity alongside Congressman Charles B. Rangel of New York’s District 13. The meeting was arranged by two members of Congressman Rangel’s District Office, Wenbo Wang of TORCHPAC and Dena Rubanowitz (’17) of our very own university’s YUPAC.

Congressmen Rangel has long been a friend of Israel, and he was quick to assure our student leaders that he has supported Israel long before any of them were born. It was heart-warming to all of the students present to hear the accounts of a man so devoted to the Jewish Homeland. Rangel quickly engaged the students through stories and shared his stance on both the situation in the Middle East as well as his involvement within Congress.

“The existential threat is not just to Israel, but to their ally in the west,” said Rangel.

This solidarity meeting offers a glimpse of what YUPAC has in store for the future. One of YUPAC’s primary goals is to develop and maintain steady relationships with members of the legislature, with the hope that elected officials will be more inclined to vote in favor of policies benefitting America’s ally in the Middle East. Meeting with Congressman Rangel was reassuring, and a good beginning towards YUPAC’s objectives.
