For any Stern girl who is dissatisfied with the study spots available on campus, have no fear. You may have noticed (or taken) a survey going around several weeks ago regarding renovations for the library on the Beren campus sent out by the Student Life Committee — and it has been determined that, in fact, the periodicals room in the Stern library will be revamped.
The information regarding the impending renovations has been publicized by the Student Life Committee. The initiative to improve the library has been a request in the works for a while according to Zahava Schwartz, the library liaison for the Student Life Committee this year.
“We have two main ways of knowing this [the library renovation] is something the student body desires,” explained Schwartz. “Firstly, we have set up in the past, as we did at this year’s Majors Fair, a suggestion box. Students are able to put their suggestions for projects they think the school should work on in the box, and this was one of them. Secondly, we [the Student Life Committee] are also students, so we hear what everyone is chatting about, and the library was a reoccurring topic.”
Stern students can hopefully look forward to improved aesthetics, more comfortable, “lounge-type” furniture, more group study rooms and more individual study space.
Responses to the survey regarding the library renovations were for the most part very positive ones. “Students were first unsure whether doing the survey actually mattered,” said Schwartz, “but when we confirmed that renovations were happening and we wanted — no, needed — their opinion on it, they were more than willing to do the survey.”
The Student Life Committee cannot disclose where the funds for the library renovations will be coming from.
